- Position Paper -- Due June 28, 8:00 a.m.
The student completing this course should be able to give a thoughtful and informed response to the prompt: "Please explain your philosophy, theory and practice of pastoral counseling." After taking this course, the student should be better equipped to build upon and refine his/her model of Christian counseling with additional courses from the curriculum. In that regard, students will submit a 5 page double-spaced position paper that describes a philosophy of pastoral counseling based on the lectures presented in class from Competent Christian Counseling (eds. Clinton and Ohlschlager). Material from chapters not covered in class may be included in the paper as well.

- Final Exam -- Due July 2, 11:55 p.m.
The intent of this final examination is to encourage critical thinking and help you to apply what we have discussed in class to real situations. You can use your textbook, class notes and power point related material.. There are four questions listed below. Answer each question thoroughly, but there is no need to be overly wordy. Each question is worth a potential of 25 points each.
- Based on the lectures regarding theology of counseling and also the material in the Clinton/Ohlschalger text in chapter 4 develop an essay that personalizes this material. What is your theology of pastoral counseling? Be sure to cite the text and lectures.
- Discuss the principles of spiritual formation discussed in class. Cite specific spiritual disciplines. How do these disciplines impact your life and your future in pastoral counseling? Material in chapter 5 of the text is relevant to this question.
- Develop your own case study (fictional or true) and apply specific components of crisis counseling principles discussed in lecture June 21st. Cite those principles as they apply to your case. Your attention to detail in using the principles in lecture is important.
- Cite a counseling example (real or fictional) where you would you solution based brief therapy in chapter 14 of the text. Again...give attention to detail by applying each of the steps of such therapy to your example.
