Late Work Policy

The compressed nature of DCC's non-traditional classes makes late work especially problematic for students and instructors. Therefore, we strongly recommend that instructors use the following late work policy. Instructors can adjust this policy for their classrooms but must state those adjustments clearly in the welcome email. The activities concerning attendance should not be altered, because they are a matter of policy.

Unless the instructor makes explicit exceptions, students will assume these standards for late work:

• Regular weekly written work (essays, projects, reflections, etc.) will be marked down 2% for every day the assignment is late.
• Without previous arrangements, weekly written work submitted more than two weeks late will not be accepted.
• Quizzes must be taken on time. After the due date and time, quizzes close. They can only be reopened if the student presents a worthy case as to why it could not be taken on time:
  • E.g. planned on taking the quiz two days before it was due, but was in an accident and was in the hospital.
• Flex Class Attendance and Participation Activity: Students must watch the recording and post the participation activity by 8 a.m. the morning of the following class session. Otherwise, a student will be recorded as absent and receive a "0" for participation credit.
• Discussion forum postings simply cannot be late. Once the posting period is over, other students will no longer visit the forum, so it is not longer a discussion. In a class that is entirely online, failure to post at least one substantive post in a given week will also result in an absence.
• At the end of week 6 (in a Flex class, 4 days after the final class session), the class is over, so no additional work can be submitted. The only exception is when previous arrangements have been made with the instructor. Even then, severe late penalties may apply. Students should read the policy on "Incompletes" in the catalog to assist when issues arise that make it difficult to complete a course.
